West End and TV Star Lends Support to Yeadon Amateurs

Expecting to open yet another booking for seats for their forthcoming musical, Yeadon Amateurs’ booking officer, Ann Joynson, was astounded when out of the envelope popped a signed photograph of Robert Lindsay, star of television’s My Family.

Mr. Lindsay played the leading role in Me and My Girl when the musical opened at the Adelphi Theatre on London’s Strand in 1985. The production of the show at Yeadon, which opens next week, marks a long-awaited revival of the musical, last seen at the town hall in 1997.

Ann said: “When I opened the envelope I couldn’t believe it!  I’m not sure how he knows we’re performing Me and My Girl but it’s great to have his support.”

Robert Lindsay won both a British Theatre Award and a Tony Award on Broadway for his performance as “Bill Snibson”, the role being played at Yeadon by Rob Hastings.

“He’s a hard act to follow,” laughed Rob, “but I’ll give it my best shot! There are some great comedy moments – hopefully we will have our audiences rolling in the aisles – just like he did!”

Me and My Girl opens next Tuesday (11 March) and runs to Saturday 15 March at Yeadon Town Hall. Tickets are available on line at or from the box office on 07570 610989.
